Dancing in the street
There really is a 1930's feel about Mercat 1930's Sunday lunchtime shindig 'Swing and Vermut.' The large terrace of the art deco styled building becomes a dance-floor for the many fans of Lindy-hopping in Mallorca when popular Ukulele combo Monkey Doo play live for their fans.
This Sunday, 5th January, (and it's a public holiday the next day) sees the first swing out of the year for this regular monthly event which is normally on the first Sunday of each month. It's a chance to combine two of Mallorca's current trends; swing music and dancing, and the old custom of taking a vermouth before lunch.
If you didn't already know, Mercat 1930 (right by Tito's disco) on the Paseo Maritimo, is one of Palma's food markets where there's a central seating area surrounded by food stalls. Take a seat, wander around the stalls, choose your food and drink, enjoy it with your friends old and new.
You'll find a superb choice of cuisines in there – Oysters and seafood, Italian, croquettes, tapas, sushi, burgers, sausages and cheese, Thai, Mexican, Mallorcan, and desserts – so everyone is catered for!
It's a fun, social way to dine, I actually find it rather exciting, so combining it with an event like Swing and Vermouth makes it even more enjoyable.
So, that's Sunday 5th January from 12:30 to 14:30 – free dancing, pay only for what you eat and drink.
