ATP tour circuit returns
Anyone in Mallorca next June will get a chance to see some of the best and up-and-coming male tennis players in the world as the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) tour circuit returns to the island. The Mallorca Championships will take place on 20th to 27th June 2020 - the week before Wimbledon – at the Santa Ponsa Country Club. (photo)
Played on grass – so a great warm up for Wimbers – the tourney is worth €900,000 in prizes and is one of only eight played on the green stuff. Obviously the names of the competitors haven't been announced yet but there will be 28 men competing in the singles comp and 16 pairs in the doubles.
The Mallorca Championships mark a return to the island of the ATP comp after 18 years as the last time matches in this category were held here was the period from 1998 to 2002! Obviously Mallorca does have some historic ties with the ATP classification as two former number ones are Mallorca born and bred; Rafa Nadal and Carlos Moyà!
Other famous names which appear on the winners lists are Murray, Federer, Medvedev, Djokovic, and Kyrgios. Perhaps one or two of them will be here next June?
