You probably know that Hollywood star Michael Douglas and his equally Hollywood wife Catherine Zeta-Jones spend their summer vacation here in Mallorca every year. They stay at their S’Estaca estate in Valldemossa which has the most fabulous views of the hillsides and the sea and was once the home of the Austrian Archduke Louis Salvador.
Built in 1867, Douglas and his then wife Diandra bought it 30 years ago and he has returned faithfully every year since then. In fact he is such an item in Mallorca that he acts as Ambassador for the island to promote it as a wonderful tourist destination.
Now the estate is up for sale at a whopping price tag of over €28 million though this is around half the asking price when it was first put on the market 5 years ago.
As this year's vacation marked his 30th anniversary of being associated with Mallorca, the authorities presented the actor with a specially made birthday cake which prompted him to remark that even when the estate is sold, he would still return to Mallorca.
Anyway, just to prove that no matter rich and famous you are, your last day on holiday is always a bit of a wistfully sad occasion as you face up to the reality of getting up early for work on Monday. Michael Douglas posted a video to his Facebook page captioned;
"Our last day in beautiful Majorca! We are going to miss you!"
I wonder if, like the rest of us, when they went out to eat that evening, they found the best restaurant ever and one they would have gone in every night had they found it sooner?
Have you ever done this?
