Hotel Soller Plaza
One of Soller's beautiful old buildings has been painstakingly converted into a shiny new hotel and it couldn't be more centrally located. The Plaza de la Constitución, Soller's main square is the location for the Hotel Soller Plaza which received its first guests just last week.
Even if you've only been to Soller just once, you'll know the location which is just metres from the railway station and tram terminus. It's the main hub of the town, with important and rather beautiful buildings like the town hall, church and modernist former bank jockeying for places along with the table bedecked terraces of lots of bars and cafes.
Formally the Casal del Planet, the hotel is just to the side of the town hall and has great views from its front facing rooms of the plaza and the rickety trams trundling through it on their way down to the port.
The Hotel Soller Plaza has only 21 rooms, all with the latest mod cons, including a massive 43 inch flat screen TV for the odd occasion when you may want to catch up on what's happening in the outside non-holiday world.
Its two owners, one of whom is an extremely experienced hotelier, have created an establishment in which all the style and character of the former stately home and emblematic building have been preserved but whose interior has been transformed and adapted to the needs of today's travellers.
They've certainly chosen the location well as guests will be within touching distance of a myriad bars and cafes, the weekly market is held on the square which is still a gathering place for the people of the town. Independent shops abound in the nearby Calle de la Luna and there are museums, art galleries and a wealth of modernist architecture in the town.
For the adventurous, there are walks, hikes and trails through the Tramuntana Mountains whilst Puerto de Soller, a tram ride away, is a great place to take a boat rip or just lounge on the sand by the sea.
There's certainly something for everybody there and this new hotel would make a great base. I checked out room only prices for two people in May, and at €104 per night, it isn't going to break the bank!
