Photo Comp winners exhibition

Casal Solleric

Every year when Palma celebrates its patron saint, San Sebastian's day, one of the events is a photographic competition. Unlike many other photographic challenges this one is unusual because the entrants have a limited time to snap their assignments which remain unknown to them until the start of the comp.

So, last January 27th 400 photgraphers of all colours, creeds, denominations and genders lined up for a Le Mans style start in the centre of Palma when the categories for subject matter were announced. The themes this year were: neighbourhood, photo report, walls, teenagers, abstract photo, at dusk and sorority, solidarity among women.

With all photos having to be submitted in their 'raw' state by close of play on the same day, Palma was full of happy snappers rushing around to complete their assignments. Now, the photos have been judged, the prizes dished out and as usual the best photos from all categories are on display in the courtyard of the beautiful baroque Casal Solleric on the Paseo del Borne in the centre of Palma.

The exhibitionwhich has just started, lasts until 7th April and is free to enter. It's open Tuesday to Saturday 11 h to 14 h - 15:30 to 20:30 h,

Sunday and Public Holidays 11 to 14:30h

I've managed to get my hands on just a few of the photos which as you can from our gallery are quite creative and thought provoking.
