Mallorcan gin, Spain's best

Gin Eva

gin eva ingredients

Exactly five years ago I wrote about a really good gin produced right here in Mallorca by a young couple who had moved here to live. Their hard work and patience in building up their business as Gin Eva has just won a prize as the best gin in all Spain!

As you probably know, gin as a drink has been really popular over the last few years with dozens of new and small producers joining the market. Spain is no exception and as many of the core ingredients of trendy new gins – the botanicals which give it its unique flavour - are grown here there's a lot of competition.

The World Gin Awards were held in London a few days ago and Gin Eva scooped the prize for the Best Contemporary Style Gin in Spain Category. It really is a taste of Mallorca, as produced in a copper still in Lluchmayor, its unique flavour comes from the island's juniper berries and botanical ingredients and citrus fruit grown locally.

You can find out more about Gin Eva and the people behind it in my original article and if you would like to sample some and you're not already in Mallorca, you can buy it online by following this link which directs you to merchants in your own country. Buy Gin Eva

In fact it was the British distributor of Gin Eva who entered it into the competition and the prize came as a complete surprise to Eva Maier (the Eva half of Gin Eva) when she was sent the diploma! She commented "this recognition is very important because at a time when so many gins are being produced industrially, it is comforting to take into account the work of artisanal gins".

Well done to them (and Mallorca for the ingredients.)
