Best in Spain
Aficionados of one of the most lung bursting, physically draining sports known to man (well me anyway) – trail running - have just voted for their best run in Spain. For the second year in succession La Trapa Trail de s'Arracó in Andratx over on the rugged west coast of Mallorca came out on top of the rest of Spain with a score of 4.44 out of 5!
Voting took place through the Runedia website where over 5000 trailblazers decided that the Trapa Trail which takes place for the fifth time in September 2019 was the best. It's a 19 km race with 900 m ascents and descents which starts and finishes in s'Arracó and takes in spectacular mountain and sea views over to Dragonera island.
As you can see from the video, the sport of trail running is somewhere between fell walking, rock climbing and running with proper footwear and a good pair of lungs essential for the sport. The runedia runners voted La Trapa to the top of the list based on the event's organisation, price, the environment, services offered and finally the difficulty of the route. And what a route it is – just look at that scenery!
However, Andratx didn't just come out in front with trail running, its obstacle course 'fun' run was voted the second best in the country. The Brutalo (photo above) where competitors dress up to run through cold water, mud, barbed wire, fields full of hungry lions, and crocodile infested swamps scored an impressive 4.49 out of 5!
Andratx council are pretty proud of their achievements in promoting outdoor sporting activities like this and gave a special mention to Athletics Club Andratx which actually organises these and many other events.
Note – I was only joking about the lions and crocodiles
