Jazz Voyeur Festival 2017

Trui Theatre, Palma

al di meola

Since its inception back in 2004 the annual Jazz Voyeur Festival has brought some of the biggest names in Jazz, Funk, Blues, Gospel and Soul to Mallorca making it the premier Jazz fest of many on such a comparatively small island. Over the years artists of the calibre of Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Kool and the Gang, Roberta Flack, Ron Carter, Stanley Clarke, Terence Blanchard, and Gloria Gaynor have performed here.

This year there will be four concerts, all at the Trui Theatre on the outskirts of Palma, taking place in November and December, and whilst smaller than in years past, the line up is as diverse within the broad spectrum of the genre as ever.

First out of the straps is Andrea Motis, a young trumpeter and singer from Barcelona who has played alongside Quincy Jones and is joined on stage by Joan Chamorro and their quartet. 10th November, tickets from €22

Next in line is Al Di Meola who once plied his trade as a guitarist with fusion group Return to Forever and now as a solo artist. He brings his acoustic versions of 'The Music of Di Meola, Piazzolla & Lennon & McCartney' to the Trui on the 15th November with tickets ranging from €29 to €45.

Lovers of Funk will be ecstatic to hear that James Brown's sax man Maceo Parker will be hitting 'the One' in Palma on the 3rd of December. Now an incredible 74 years old Maceo is still taking it to the bridge and tickets for this unmissable event are only €29 to €45.

The final concert features the massed voices of The South Carolina Gospel Chorale in a barnstorming, foot stomping tribute to the Lord. The choir, backed by organ, bass and drums, sing numbers dating back to the days of the plantations right up to the present day. The date is 13th December and tickets cost from €25 to €40.
